Week ONE Football Picks

A little tradition that was started, not on purpose, is football picks by week. Let me explain. Every week in football there are Sunday games, Monday night games and Thursday night games. What Andrew and I have done is start writing all the games down and based on our knowledge of the teams that are facing off, we pick who we think the winner will turn out to be. Now i want to share with you this tradition week by week.

This is week one.

How this works is:

1.We make our choices, separate from each other.
For this post, I drafted it approximately 3 days prior to finishing it completely. During that draft I made my choices. On the final day I read off the games to Andrew and he made his choices without knowing the choices I made. Then we go over who picked what teams.

2. We list the games that we chose opposite teams.
Green Bay Packers VS. Chicago Bears
Me: CHI Bears
Andrew: GB Packers
Kansas City Chiefs VS. Houston Texans
Me: HOU Texans
Andrew: KC Chiefs
Detroit Lions VS San Diego Chargers
Me: SD Chargers
Andrew: DET Lions
Cincinnati Bengals VS. Oakland Raiders
Me: OAK Raiders
Andrew: CIN Bengals

3. We try to watch as many football games as possible.
There are certain teams and/or matchups that we do prefer over others so we will choose some games to completely disregard too. We’re crazy sports people with eclectic tactical minds i swear.

4. Whoever wins more of their picks win.
This week we have four differences. In order to win, one of us must have 3 correct picks out of the 4. If it gets split then it gets split. We have yet to make any type of tie-breaker.

5. We learn from our loses.
I cannot stress this enough. To make picks without being an idiot, or picking blind, you must watch football. You must pay attention to all the teams. You must see any trends, know if players get injured. You have to know. We don’t forget about all the other games just because we had the same picks. We learn from them. Number 3 says it, “We try to watch as many football games as possible.” Last season was crazy for our picks. All the teams that are tried and true “losers” were winning more often than not. Big name players were getting hurt and throwing off teams. It was nuts. Interesting to see what shall transpire this season.

6.This is all in good fun
Don’t get upset, frustrated, mad, or whatever. These are just games. Sports were created for entertainment. So be entertained. Enjoy yourself. Have fun.

What do you think?
